How to send videos in Mailrelay newsletters

In this article, we are going to see how to include videos in our Mailrelay messages. As always, this is very easy. To do this, we are going to use the external server that found here:

m.vid.ly

When using this service, not only do we guarantee the conversion of our video to different formats, ensuring that it will be viewed properly in different media players, but there is also an added bonus: we will not be using our Mailrelay account’s band width, since the video will be hosted on an external server.

Adding videos to our email marketing campaigns can be a good idea for certain promotions and opens up more possibilities when creating our newsletters.

Let’s now look at what steps we need to take to add our video to the email newsletter. The first step is to upload our video. We will click on “Try one,” which we can see highlighted in the following image:

The next step will be to create the URL that our video will use. We can use the one given to us by default:

We will click on the “Start” button with the URL that we have written, or the one given to us by default. Then we will have to select where our video is stored, be it FTP, HTTP, S3, Cloud, or we will upload it directly from our computer. In this last step, we will select:

We will then select the video that we wish to use in our email marketing campaign:

Then all we have to do is insert the email address where we want to receive notification that the process has concluded and click on the “Finish” button for our video to configure.

We will be able to see the progress of this process in a bar on our screen, which will also give us information on the formats that are being created. We can see it in the following image:

Once this process is finished, we will go to a page that looks like this:

Enviar videos en newsletter de email

On this page, we will find different URLs to share our video as well as Iframe codes, even though this is not what we are going to do at this moment. We only need our video’s basic URL:

The next step will be to create a new newsletter in our Mailrelay panel. As always, we will go to the “List of newsletters” tab:

Then we will click on the “Create” button and we will enter in the basic information for our newsletter:

The next step will be to create the basic content of our email newsletter, such as text, headings, etc. Let’s see an example:

Let’s now look at the HTML code that our newsletter has generated by clicking on the “Source HTML” button:

Enviar videos en newsletter de email

Here we will have to add—and this is the only tricky part of the tutorial—the following code:

[code lang=”php”]
Click to play video

[/code]

With this, our newsletter’s source HTML will look like this:

Enviar videos en newsletter de email

But let’s now go back to the non-HTML version. By clicking on the same button as before, “Source HTML”, we can see what the video looks like inserted in the newsletter:

Now all we have to do is follow the normal process and complete our newsletter, preparing it to be sent.

Now we will go back over how we created the code to insert the video into the email, since, as we have said, this is the most difficult part. First, let’s recall that we need to have our video’s URL.

The portion of this URL that refers to our video is the following:

2n5n6h

In the code we saw earlier, you only have to substitute that number with the number belonging to your video to be able to use it. Let’s look at an example of how our newsletter looks in a Hotmail inbox:

Enviar videos en newsletter de email

As we can see in this case, we can play the video directly because Hotmail supports this function. If the email provider does not support it, like in the case of Gmail, we will see a screen that looks like this:

Enviar videos en newsletter de email

Sending videos in email newsletters

Instead, we get an image of the video, which, when we click on it, loads the online version of the newsletter:

with the appropriate video player that allows us to see the content of the video in the newsletter, just as we want.

We have been able to show that inserting videos in a newsletter is fairly simple and only requires a little bit of editing.
